I should start to use those out of office replies. That's one thing about going away on holidays. The dread of having to sift through all the emails when you get back.
Before when it was primarily telephones (yes, I can remember those days; sometimes fondly), people would get the message from your secretary that you were out of the office for the next couple of weeks and they should call back then. But now with email, people don't care (and probably don't know) if you're there or not. They know you will eventually get the email when you return and your inbox fills up with an unbelievable number of new messages.
