Buddy of mine had this happen twice. First time he sent it away and Sony fixed it. It just happened again a couple months ago. He made the switch to a Slim because of it.
I'm waiting for the day mine dies. I have a 40GB (upgraded to a 300GB 2 years ago) that I've had for years. Its still truckin.
