Doing any compound/polish by hand is a serious chore...and you wont get the best results...you need to invest in an orbital polisher if you are going to detail properly.
I was just about to make this point. Claying (no matter how much or which type of lubricant you use) creates micro-marring. You pretty much have to polish with at least a fine grade product after claying. An orbital polisher would be a must in this case.
