Ok so how is this post ranking system calculated?

I see people who are Private first class and have more posts than 2nd Lt....how do these promotions work?

Also what system are we following? from what i can gather the ranks go...

Private First Class
Second Lt.
First. Lt
Captain
Major
Lt. Col
Col
B. General
General

those are big jumps...

the Marines go
Private
Private First Class
L. Cpl
Cpl
Sgt
SSgt
GSgt
MSgt
1st Sgt
Master GSgt
SgtMaj

Then Warrant or Officer Ranks

While the Army goes...

Sgt

Then to Officer ranks Lt > or Warrant Officer Ranks
