How cheap is the M that they can't make a different guage for the tach than the m5/6!
I can see why now people may register an "overrev" as you can take it beyond red probably to 8500 before you hit the cutoff

Yes, there are higher limits in the code above the redline actually set. One is on the injection side of the processor and another on the ignition side of the processor - max rpm for injection / max rpm for ignition.
There is also a byte that refers to rpm buffer. All of this combined lets you hit 8,450 ish with a stock car (especially with DCT).
