Being down a quart is not as big a deal as it is made out to be....... Just add a quart of oil within a few days and everything will be fine. It is not like you have to shut your car down to avoid engine damage!

You
will get a red warning on your iDrive if you oil gets too low. It has scary language about permanent damage to your vehicle. I think this warning kicks in right after you go 1 qt low. I got this warning, and immediately pulled off the road added a a full qt, and the warning went away and level indicator was at the top (i.e. not mid).
