D200. I needed the weatherized chassis for a lot of what I like to shoot.
Remember, a camera is nothing more than a light tight box with a hole in it. Save your $$$ for lenses - they're what matter.
What do you need for your shooting? Where will you shoot? The D80 is great bargin these days, as is the D70s if you can pick one up used.
If you really need a rugged camera, I can't say enough good things about the D200.
If you want Canon, I don't know anything about them. Nikon or Canon, you can't go wrong.
