Almost anywhere on the hood or trunk is fine on the 135i. I'd stay away from the roof. I put a dent on my 135i roof every time I mounted it up there.
Trunk works great on the M3. I used the edge of the rear window for some angles too. Carbon fiber roof is obviously a bad idea (not going to try it
). There's a lot of soft spots on the hood. And the edges are always sturdy, but they angle too much for my suction cups to work well. Here's a shot of the rig location that worked best for me:
