I read somewhere else, that there's an "A/C pressure switch operates when the A/C is turned on. The info from the switch is used to increase the engine load in order to compensate for the extra load placed on the engine by the A/C. " Could this be the issue?

10 miles isn't much. I would definitely (and do) use a tender but does this issue happen if you start the car with no HVAC running at all?
