My go-to lens for street, travel and general photography is a 24-105mm f/4, for cars, portraits and mammals, it's the 70-200mm f/4, for birds it's the 500mm f/4. The 24-105mm is on a full-frame sensor and the 70-200mm usually is, but can wind up on the crop-sensor.
I only jones for something wider at the wide end and some lighter at the super-tele end.
Your problem isn't your "kit" lens, however. You're not using it to its full capacity yet, at least from the small sample I've seen.
