What a terrible experience. I hope I never have to go through this. In my opinion, you'll never recover those three months of payments while not having the car. It is the risk we take when we buy a product that can break on us. Your best choice would be to make your displeasure known to the Service Department manager and/or BMW NA and they may make you a compensatory offer. Good luck.
