According to BMW NA, Larry Koch, the 18s provide better handling than the 19s because the taller sidewall allows the tire to conform to the surface of the road thus increasing grip levels. I found this surprising but interesting.

I plan to run 18s on the track because they allow for a larger choice of R compounds and they are cheaper.
