charlies for british and billys for americans its because the name charles and bill appears a lot in each country.
also the terms "charlies" and "billys" apply to britishcypriots who speak greek with an accent
many cypriots went to england for work and many after the war so we have a lot of britishcypriots. they are all described as charlies
