The way you see smoothness of ticking actually varies on more things that just the ticks, the size and shape of the second hand also impact how it visually appears. I can certainly see a difference when looking and ugly co-axial ticking.

I don't know much about watches and what to expect. For an MSRP of over $7000, I think my watch's second hand is also clunky. Is it even possible to get a second hand on an automatic watch to go around smoothly?
