I wish I had seen this prior to calling roadside assist. Just got a call from BMW that it was the seatbelt which caused the inability to put into gears at startup. Glad there's nothing wrong with the transmission

FYI the service writer said in feb a new software will be available to bypass the seatbelt issue.
