it's important for people to learn the value of things as well, and there's a pride in buying your own and not depending on others.
Buying a new car for a new driver may be safer, cooler.... but in the long run I think people learn to appreciate things more when they have to pay for them themselves.
don't get me wrong, a new driver'd be nuts to pass up any new car offered to them but the car desicion is a good chance to teach values to the youngns that parents often screw up.
