Perhaps Mitsu is successful enough in their other endeavors to a point where the success of a single hot-rodded econo box is not important to them anymore. It being an absolute beast of a car and its legenday name sure make it a sad sad bit of specualtion though. I've never owned or been interested in owning one but what a loss to the performance automotive community it would be.
