Because there are several performance versions from the base Mustang:
Mustang GT
Shelby GT500
Boss 302
other variant:
Roush
Speaking of volumes, each version that comes out will be smaller in number. But if we were to play that game an M3 GTS would be rarer than a Boss 302.
