Not the best size. 285/25-20s are almost 3/4" smaller OD than stock (3% in circumference). That's 3/8" less sidewall height, so yes, rims would be more vulnerable.
295/25s would be 2% smaller, a better choice, depending on rim width. Or, 285/30s would be about 2% larger, also better, IMO. These specs are all based on PS2s.
