Maybe BMW shoot themselves in the foot introducing the Twin Turbo Engine. Remember that when the E46 came out no other BMW 3 series could compare the performance of the M3. Now you have a in-line six biturbo engine that is very close to the V8 in the 2500 to 5000 powerband. And I believe that a piggybacked E92 would keep up very well with the V8. I have driven the E92 M3 and to tell you the truth I was not impressed. There is not Wow effect and it feels heavy. I would have liked to see a V10 option.

This is just my personal opinion and I know that I will own an M car in the near future. No need to feel defensive. We are here because we love the brand.

+1 on your observations. However, with warranty issues aside a chipped E9X 335i will maybe only match the M3 in drag races. As for the V10, I can see why BMW didn't detune it and put it in the M3 because then then there would be absolutely no reason to get a M5
