Actually I use them on the street all the time, but only when it is hot and dry.
I have been caught in the rain, and actually drove the Lotus 300 miles from NC to DC in Tropical Storm Somethingorother. I don't care to repeat that experience.
And they are good for about 6K miles (outer limit) in street use before they are toast. They're gone in a long weekend on the track.
