BMW is not going to a foundry and create new blocks at great costs if there are already good ones in existence. Blocks are examined for stress fractures and intergrity issues, using microscopic cameras, computers and other techniques then bored and honed.

Once its machined its equivalent to new. The block is actually the least worry free component of an engine build. Its either solid or it isn't.
