Also, there is no way for anyone to know whether a block was abused or not. You could be getting someone's blown s/c block for all you know. Just cause it passes a list of tolerances, doesn't mean it was babied.

Well unless you've kept your car in the garage with 0 miles on it since you bought it, by definition your engine is used, just like the rest of your car. Does the knowledge that your engine isn't new anymore bother you every time you walk out to your car? If not, then it probably shouldn't bother the OP to have such an engine put under his hood.
Yes, I agree that there are degrees of used, and at that point I guess it's up to BMW's engineers to develop solid tests and tolerances -- but unless someone here happens to know what those are and is qualified to cast an opinion on them, that's a pretty moot point.
