It's a fact, BUT only on COLD startups, due to lack of proper lubrication (thick oil can't be pumped fast enough). And yes, the colder it gets, the worse it is for the engine due to oil being thicker, especially with the molasses-like TWS (glad I don't live up north ). That's also why you should wait to rev the engine hard until oil is fully warmed up, when it can flow/lubricate as designed.
