To me the audio system is not that important I prefer the sound of the exhaust and engine
I agree with you that BMW missed the boat here by not putting a better system in this high priced car, however, I find that the standard system for what I use it is just fine.
If you hesitate don't do it since as others said you will only regret it later and that might be too expensive to bear.
