The 335s sound like they weren't tuned properly. The meth should be used in addition to the tune, not in conjunction with it. Granted that is provided you are after more power that is safe. The N54 block is capable of a large amount of power, as we have seen. So if they blew they were most likely abused and neglected.
If you add a quality stand alone meth kit the car will gain power and your engine will last longer as a result of the added safety achieved from lower iats, added octane etc. Snow Performance or AA have nice kits, AA's kit is made just for the E90 and works well. Tune the car for all it can take and then some and you may have a different outcome. Especially given the variances in E85 blends from location to location. This is why those on a serious quest for power build there cars from all aspects for max power from pump gas that can be easily obtained.
If there hasn't been someone near a reputable tuner that has yet to accomplish an E85 conversion, there's probably a good reason for it. Sometimes it's not the best to be a guinea pig unless you've got a fair amount of extra cash burning holes in your pocket.
However this unfolds, I wish you and this platform the best of luck in your endeavor.
