Depending on what your looking for out of your m, you may want to get FBO and a tune. Mine is FBO with a tune and it feels just as quick as my old n54 335, which was FBO with a cobb protune. No meth or e85. I'm sure if I got e85 and/or meth my n54 would have felt faster. The m3 is a totally different animal and I don't regret changing from the 335 at all.
Also, don't buy into the hype that a n54 has terrible reliability. I had one hpfp go the first year I owned my 07' 335 and not one problem in 5 years after that. For all the abuse people throw at that little engine, the n54 handles it very very well.
As others said, get a supercharger if you really worry about it.
