Even if you get insurance though the rental agency and get into an accident, they will report it to DMV, therefore your insurance company will find out about it sooner or later. At the renewal time they will see an accident and will jack up your rates accordingly. Even if the accident is not your fault, if will still show up on your record and affect your rates.
