The seat belt handover is just something else to break and adds to the cost. Have been fastening seat belts before engine start since 1962. Yes, it'll work by switching on ignition or radio readiness modes but still could be replaced with a simple (and cheaper) holder on top of the seat back similar to the gizmo on the GTI 2-door.
