As far as I can tell from your pics it doesn't look that bad, except too much gap. This is accentuated by contrast with light colored car.
Would personally start with just trying to add about 3 self-tapping screws to each side of current set up, them go from there. Or you could first apply some additional fresh tape and maybe even heat up bit first. Afterwards you can try little bit of black silicone into gap if you want.
