Primes are fine, I own an incredible 500mm f/4L IS, BUT there's no quality sacrifice with zooms when you consider the lens correction that you can now automatically do as part of RAW conversion. Primes are great to fullfil a special need, like fast aperture or compact size, but those that think that they're needed to achieve top image quality are still shooting with film.
The OP's new lens is a stunning lens. I chose the 70-200mm f/4L IS for its great IQ, compact size and flexibility. I use it with and without the 1.4x TC, depending on potential subject matter. My 5D MkII has great high-ISO performance, so I don't need the extra speed of an f/2.8 or faster.
Just some thoughts to consider when chosing lenses.
