no! it is not gear type nore a clutch type! it is a speed-sensing (!) gkn visco-lok unit which needs different rotational speeds on the driven wheels to actually activate the shear pump to apply pressure to the clutch pack and finally lock. so it is a slow performer and not comparable to a torque-sensitive clutch type lsd like the osg or the former bmw stock lsd units used until the e36/e39 m-cars!

all current bmw racecars (incl. m3 gt4) still only use clutch type lsd units... these units are the way to go if you want the maximum performance (and fun).
