Got a cup in front bumper air duct. Best protection?

Got engine temperature quickly passing 210F and getting into the 3rd quarter just after 10+ minutes of driving. After looking around the car found out that there was a foam cup stuck in the air duct on the driver side. Apparently it seems like it was designed to fit the cup - needed to tear it into pieces to get it out of there.

Which brings me to the question. What would be the best way to protect the driver's side duct pathway? There is a radiator grille in the passenger side duct, so it's alright there, but nothing at all on the driver side.

So far I found only one picture with some kind of a protection installed in this thread http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=389296 back from 2010.

Wanted to see if that's just me missing some part in there, or if anyone else installed anything in there to protect the duct.
