There are a number of threads about that on the german forums. BMW will give you a new one without objections, but it still doesn't solve the Problem. It is not a defect, it's a bad construction. The new one will crack sooner or later. Some guys have their 3rd exhaust already. It might have something to do with the Autobahn- higher speeds- prolonged heat exposure
It's just a speculation.
