Sounds like a butt-cover to me. I'd do the same thing, while quietly contacting my lawyer to make sure I have my rights straight if and when I decide to deny reimbursement due to some bizzare contributing factor beyond my control, like somebody buying used wheels for a lamborghini and having them disassembled and refinished.
