Dr. Segler has been a lighting rod for criticism by many including myself, but he did get one thing right. The 1M targets a completely different demographic (i.e. those who cannot or choose not to pony up the bucks for an M3 yet want M'esque performance) from that targeted by the M3.
@ OP: I like both the 1M and M3; the M3 much more. The former would serve me well as a DD while the latter would be a non-DD ride. To each his own.

I like the M3 more overall as well. I adore the S65, love EDC, and the interior quality is much much nicer. But I'm guessing I'd have a bigger smile on my face driving the 1M Coupe around a track or through the mountains. It's kind of the nature of smaller, lighter, shorter-wheelbased cars.
