Really depends on your ears. Its almost impossible for someone to describe a speaker/headphone to someone without extreme bias. Everyones ears are different.
Are you looking for the flattest response possible, or Hi-Fi?
Honestly, just go to guitar center with your ipod or w/e, and start plugging in your favorite song to each headphone (Use the same song) and see what you think. One of the headphones will jump out at you over the others, and that'll be the pair you walk out of the store with.

Im not sure what the differences are between flattest responses and hi-fi. I might just go to a guitar center and try out different headphones. I thought i was set on the ath-m50 due to the stellar reviews. However, after trying out my buddy's m50 last night, i wasn't all that impressed. It was clear but I felt the highs were lacking a bit. I also didn't like the bass too much. I thought that it was a bit underwhelming.
