depends on the people and how easily travelling to each other is.
I did it with my gf. we've been together for a year (no longer long distance) we did the long distance thing for 9months (across the atlantic). we're still together
MY friend however did it for 3 years, and it just ended.. but mainly because she decided to move even FURTHER from him... :/
