As Mike points out, this retrofit should also work for cars without iDrive. It just hasn't been tested yet. Of course - like every other M3 with MDrive but no iDrive - you still won't have Sport Plus Power. Fortunately, of the three MDrive-exclusive settings, that is probably the least important one.
