Generally it is not, but some offense are still instantly terminable. Theft, overt harassment, presenting a danger to teammates, false documentation, etc. I terminated someone in less than a week on two of the aforementioned and less than 2 weeks on the overt harassment. My industry is especially risk averse but as a field manager, when I had to terminate an associate I have had complete support.

In most cases people fire themselves. It just takes time for the documentation to catch up.
