M3's respond very well to smooth inputs in every aspect, especially shifting. There are a lot of complaints about the tranny and clutch, but I personally really like how BMW configures them, Not like a race car, but very easy and comfortable to operate in a smooth fashion.

I think these differences make the car a better road car, and don't really effect it on a road course once you're used to it. I NEVER miss a shift and my left calf doesn't get worn out in horrible traffic (like driving back to Milwaukee from the Chicago Auto Show at 5:30 pm last night).
