The FM is a LSD friction modifier and several other companies make it as a separate additive. It can actually be quite damaging to the seals too. I've been told it's only needed if you get diff chatter, but if I don't use OEM, I am thinking of using 4% to mimic OEM fluid.

That fluid is actually oem fluid these days for E9X M3's and 1M's (its been confirmed by a few owners who dont trust the lifetime fluid guarantee and have had their fluid changed at the dealer here in australia) so I doubt its damaging to seals etc and only to be used for diffs which grind.
