Without backing plates the hose can be clamped on, there is a good chance the hose will either be lost completely or get disoriented if you drive aggressively at speed and go over curbing etc. I hope it works out for you.

Seems like it would be fairly easy to mod the backing plates by welding on a fitting to accept the hose.
