M cars were more necessary ~15 years ago when mainstream components left more to be desired. But today, that's not the case.
Look at the e90 335i for example. It delivers a similar level of performance as the e39 M5. (335i ring time is ~2 seconds less than the e39 M5's)
Many times, I feel like my car is being wasted since all the roads are just straight lines + intersections. at least I can appreciate the engine on the highway.
I can only imagine how you must feel with an M6
