The only thing you have to worry about with paint is that it will chip over time. This is more important with the front grills but even the side grills get rock chips with rocks getting spewed up by the front wheels.
With the matte black front grills and side gills we sell, they already are a black plastic so you don't have to worry about chipping.

Hi Nick, how about posting a photo of the black matte side grill/light for us to have a look at.
