My E90 M3 with the Evolve XPipe and Stage 2 Tune does have a momentary snap and crackle too, but its inconsistent and very conditional. But when it does, man does it sound great.
In contrary to my E46 m3 with the Evolve overrun feature, it is ALWAYS very consistent and happens regularly.
In my opinion, it isn't tacky, nor annoying. A ton of the E46 M3 guys loved it when Evolve first announced they could do it on that car. Just the other day, I was zipping around town in my buddy's E46 M3 with a CSL Airbox and Schrick Cams. He has the Evolve overrun and it sounds absolutely WICKED with his stepped headers and 3.5" exhaust.
Seriously cannot wait to get mine next week. Weather permitting, I'll try to grab some videos too!
