On my E46, I just went with the cheap route. I got those pads you put under furniture legs so that they don't scratch hardwood floor. Put 2 of those on the carpet. Works just like $20 aftermarket clutch stops.
I'll have to try this clutch spring mod on my 08 since everyone seems to have positive results
