This is an interesting thought- if you know it's related to a spring, once you get it out, you could take some measurements (length, dia, and maybe even the "k" value) and then go online and find something similar. Otherwise, I believe it's a $400 replacement for the assy.

Having said all that, unless the spring is somehow damaged, it's unlikely to be worn out.
