Well, they really are very different. Performance wise, the Mustang may be more fun on a quarter mile/drag strip than the ///M but on a road course or curvy roads, I would say the ///M takes it hands-down. I say the Mustang may be more fun simply because its less refined nature may allow for a more exhilarating feeling upon launches (lots of noise, rumble and shake).
Both cars are legendary in their own right but they appeal to polar opposite customers. I personally would not buy a Mustang.
In the quality department, I would say that the M3 has a better fit and finish with higher quality materials.
Looks are subjective so it depends on your taste.
Why not a C7 Vette? At least you'll get handling and straight line performance superior to that of the Mustang.
