I have Liberty Mutual. They explained to me that they do not go by points and do not care if anything such as time or traffic safety school takes points off. They look at the violations and make their judgement. However DMV does not contact them, they search every one to three years depending on your prior record with them. I got a pretty big speeding ticket ~18 months ago and so far nothing from insurance.(81 not 98!)
In NJ you can, once every three years, pretty much automatically change most tickets to the "no points" careless driving offense but they ADD ~$300 for the privilege. But maybe he added careless driving so you would be stuck.
